How's it going?
I just heard about a conference call tozo people are doing so they can chant simultaneously with folks from other parts of the country. They do this every day at 5 pm 7 days a week.
Want to tozolate this Sunday...we can hook up our tozo with the conference call. Human revolution here we come!!

I'm actually in the middle of an amazing experience at work that I'm turning into something very positive through my practice. The power of chanting continues to astound me.
About getting published. Once upon a time a long time ago I mentioned to a young woman sitting next to me in a psych. class that I was a writer and wanted to get published, but I wanted to get paid for my work. She told me the small press is the place to publish short fiction and poetry and that it doesn't pay except in recognition. Here's what you do, she told me: get your work published in the small press, accumulate publication credits, and then you can get a book published. I never saw her again, but I took her words to heart.
There is no magic formula for how to get published except the one you undoubtedly already know about: don't give up. A good friend of mine who's a novelist sent out 60 query letters about his novel and got back only 3 replies from agents asking to read it. He now has an agent and a shot at getting published.
My involvement with a campus writer's group and an ongoing poetry seminar have lead to opportunities to do readings and get my work published.
As for your development as a writer (not that you asked me about this), getting feedback can be helpful, but it can be a distraction, too, depending on who's giving you the feedback. Reading is important to, but I think I've learned a lot by just continuing to write and rewrite.
In 1975 I started writing for the SGI-USA publications, which I continued to do for 25 years. I don't think it made me a better craftsperson, although I did a lot of kinds of writing I would never have done otherwise, but because I chanted so much about reaching the readers, about touching people's hearts, I came to value communication as much as self-expression. My creative work is far more accessible as a result.
I recommend that you check out the myriad literary publications on the Web. You can't take it personally if a magazine doesn't accept your work. Keep trying and eventually you'll find an editor who likes your work.
I've got to pay attention to the day job now. Happy to continue this conversation later!

It's me. When you get a chance look up George Giles and invite him to be your friend. He just signed up and I'm his only friend so far. He's the buddha who lives upstairs.
Isn't this fun?
