FULL EARTH RISE

Started this discussion Apr 17

My son's movies and yes I get to watch some too.

001- The Eye 2

In the throes of an affair with a married man (Jesdaporn Pholdee), Joey (Shu Qi) is all too aware that her love life is going nowhere. But after a failed attempt to kill herself, she receives more bad news -- she's pregnant. Deciding to keep the baby, Joey is startled by the side effects: namely, her newfound ability to see ghosts. But when she learns that one of the spirits might want her child, morning sickness is the least of her worries.

002- Silent Hill

Determined to save her terminally ill daughter (Jodelle Ferland), Rose (Radha Mitchell) ignores the wishes of her husband and takes her to a faith healer. But her well-intentioned efforts somehow land them in an alternate reality -- the deserted town of Silent Hill -- where her daughter mysteriously disappears. Now, with only a police officer (Laurie Holden) to assist her, Rose is left to search for her child in a world of darkness and shadow.

003- They

In this thriller, Julia Lund (Laura Regan), a graduate student in psychology, has always harbored a nagging fear of the dark and is forced to confront her worst nightmare head-on. When a scary real-life event triggers old memories, she begins to suspect that the things she feared were lurking in the dark when she was a child were -- and still are -- real. And what's worse, they might be coming back to get her. ...

004- Three ... Extremes II

The work of three of Asia's most prominent horror directors comes together in this creepy collection of shorts. In Ji-woon Kim's "Memories," a husband awakens to find a mutilated body in his car; meanwhile, his wife wakes up with no memory of her former life. In Nonzee Nimibutr's "The Wheel," a Thai village is terrorized by colorful puppets. And in Peter Chan's "Going Home," a father is held captive by a man who keeps his dead wife "alive."

005- Dark Ride

An impromptu stop at a roadside theme park fails to amuse six college students (including Jamie-Lynn DiScala of "The Sopranos") when they cross paths with an escaped serial killer (Dave Warden) who committed a pair of murders there nearly a decade ago. Hiding out in the park's Dark Ride attraction, the brooding killer lies in wait until his unsuspecting victims come to him. Craig Singer directs.

006- Boo!

Anthony C. Ferrante makes his directorial debut with this atmospheric horror flick set in a haunted hospital. A group of college students find themselves in the middle of bloody battle between two ghosts -- a nurse and a psychotic patient -- in the abandoned facility. Can they escape, or will their next trip be to the hospital morgue? Dee Wallace-Stone, Trish Coren, M. Steven Felty and Jilon Ghais star.

007- Final Stab

On a warpath after being dumped by her boyfriend, Kristin (Erinn Carter) decides she's going to make all her friends and her sister miserable by hosting a dinner party that makes it look as if a killer is picking off the guests one by one. But when the "victims" turn up dead for real, Kristin becomes the main suspect. Is she responsible for their deaths, or is someone else murdering them?

008- Terrorstorm: A History of Government Sponsored Terrorism

Documentary filmmaker Alex Jones dissects the concept of false-flag terrorism, a state-sponsored terrorist act carried out on home soil and meant to strike fear in the population -- and to create a "public enemy." Attempting to show the public they've been duped, Jones offers several examples and argues that the attack on Sept. 11, 2001, the London bombings on July 7, 2005, and other terrorist incidents were self-inflicted.

009- The Hills Have Eyes

When their camper breaks down in the desert on their way to California, an all-American family struggles to survive the attacks of a cannibalistic clan hungry for the fresh meat of wayward vacationers. One by one, the family members fall prey to these inbred marauders, until only a son and daughter remain to rescue their kidnapped infant brother and seek vengeance against the savages. Directed by Wes Craven.

010- Masters of Horror: Dario Argento: Jenifer

Detective Frank Spivey (Steven Weber) rescues a disfigured young woman from a depraved murderer and finds himself strangely attracted to her. Jenifer (Carrie Anne Fleming) clearly has mental issues, but when the curvaceous orphan seduces Spivey, he seems more than willing to overlook her problems -- until her fleshly appetites take a disturbing turn. Legendary master of horror Dario Argento (Suspiria) directs.

Hi Faith,

I know everyone us busy these days. I see you and i joined the group about parenting. i read you have an 18 year old. my son is 14 years old and at this moment all his grades are 75 and BELOW. I really do believe that this situation is trying to teach us as parents in our buddhist practice something BUT i'm not figuring it out right now. I've talk with a senior in faith a wd who i trust the must about it and she says that this is trying to teach us as parents to unite together. She knows our family situation more than anyone else. my mother also lives with us and of course our son brandon at times feels like he has two mothers. I am at the present time reading mrs. ikeda's book seeking for advice.
i've been practicing since i was little and my husband and i are leaders in the org. my mother is a pioneer in this area where we live. we've lived here for 45 years old....so we do know the a bit about our practice and i realize that no matter what we won't have a life with struggles. They are opporuntities to develop as a individual to create value in our lives as well as others.
have you had struggles with your son with grades. my son does go to meetings and does gongyo every morning and he's planning to go to his very first sgi activity away from home which is the jh/hs sua conference. I'll be traveling with him to ca but then i'll stay @ my sisters while he's at the conf. after the conf. we'll be spending a week with my sis.
sorry for such a long post. but since i see you've been practicing a long time also and have an 18 yr old i'd like to hear your experience in raising your son. does he practice?
take care,
kumi

I was actually a little older than the main character of the novel when I first discovered such things, even though Jello Biofra (my favorite singer in junior high school from the band the Dead Kennedys) was writing about such things, I didn't quite understand at that age). So I actually learned a lot about progressive ideas from first reading President Ikeda's dialogues, like "Before it's too late" And "Dawn After Dark" which pushed me to read other book that woke me up. However, my real awakening came when the World Tribune announced that president Ikeda's lecture from Harvard University was going to be broadcasted on Pacifica Radio (KPFK Los Angeles) in about 1994? I started listening to it religiously from then on.
