SGI Buddhism

A community for SGI Members

Hi everyone,

I am youth division member in Cagayan de Oro city, Philippines. It is where in my city started the kosen-rufu movement way back in 1974. Our first district meeting was held the same time when SGI founded on Guam january 26, 1975 at the house Mrs. Fukue, Daguman, a japanese who married Filipino(a cagayanon).

Now, we have grown into 2 general chapters(with 12 chapters) extending other provinces and throughout this island of Mindanao. I believe SGI-Mindanao members has great mission to bring peace and unity among the divided people of Mindanao with muslim separatist movement.

The SGI movement in Cagayan de Oro, the center of kosen-rufu throughout Mindanao, has gained trust in the society especially in the fields of education. One of the university here in my city honored deeply our SGI movement and had developed close ties between Ikeda sensei and Soka University with its founder and University President of Capitol University(CU) where i am bonafide student.

Last year, i am one of the 7 students who had chosen and was given the opportunity to travel in japan for Cultural exchange and Training Program at Soka University(our host) last September 7-16, 2007. It was a dream come true for me.

Also, in Capitol University a group of students who were SGI had formed a student organization 2 years ago which is named by Sensei-- LOTUS SUTRA RESEARCH GROUP(LSRG) that would contribute to the welfare and frienship to all CU students as well as in the society in promoting the ideals of Ikeda sensei and SGI movement for peace, culture and education. We had also given the priviliege for SGI students to have prayer room. Indeed, we are grateful and honored to have given SGI prayer room where the Gohonzon is enhrined at the university, the first ever in wholewide world. I am the President of the said organization last school year. We are looking forward to have big activity at school this coming school year in June.

As far as a citizen of this country are concerned, Peace and Security in Mindanao is the issue which is quite vaguely unattainable by political change. That is why i truly beleive SGI movement has a great mission to build lasting peace in Mindanao. It is for this reason that i constantly thought how we LSRG group, at the academic level, could help and build peace and understanding between our divided people. It was then that i talked with muslim student organization(MSA) in my university to start this building of friendhip and holding a big activity for Peace and Interfaith symposium. I felt this would be start of of embarking our mission and vision of LSRG group. I just hope we could come up a great and wonderful symposium that would enlightened the minds of all Mindanaon people from various cultures and religious differences and known both in local TV and newspapers with the message of peace and understanding of our shared humanity. I keep praying what i had mind to realized this thing in next school year in the beginning of June.

I'd like to share this untimely message of Ikeda sensei:

" A great human revolution in just a single individual will help achieve a change in the destiny of a nation, and further, will enable a change in the destiny of all mankind. Our lifetime mission, for myself and all of you, is to make this a reality here in this world."
