Why do Butsudans look like caskets?

I'm just curious as to why butsudans look like caskets? Some are very nice cabinetry from what I've seen. The less expensive ones made of wood aren't so bad. Then when you get to the higher priced ones they get more ornate. They make me think of caskets.

So....You know I couldn't do that for too long. I had one made that didn't look like a casket. It looks more like a Chinese/Burmese pagoda of wood and glass. It was still cheaper than a mid level butsudan.

Just a question that I've always wanted to ask.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, but this is a matter of personal perception and not something intentional. They are both basically boxes to protect that which is highly esteemed, and therefore tend to be high quality boxes to reflect that esteem.
