I'm just curious as to why butsudans look like caskets? Some are very nice cabinetry from what I've seen. The less expensive ones made of wood aren't so bad. Then when you get to the higher priced ones they get more ornate. They make me think of caskets.

So....You know I couldn't do that for too long. I had one made that didn't look like a casket. It looks more like a Chinese/Burmese pagoda of wood and glass. It was still cheaper than a mid level butsudan.

Just a question that I've always wanted to ask.

A butsudan looks like a casket because you think it looks like a casket. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but this is a matter of personal perception and not something intentional. They are both basically boxes to protect that which is highly esteemed, and therefore tend to be high quality boxes to reflect that esteem.

I appreciate the perspectives shared by Bob and Laurence

Never occurred to me 'til you suggested it. But it's still a matter of perception. :) A computer's not a tv just because they both have screens. :p

Oooooh, but a computer can be a TV. I watch shows on mine all the time. It's just that a TV can't be a computer. Then it would no longer be a TV.

Does your Butsudan look like a casket?

Don't mind me, I'm just being goofy and pulling your chain a bit.
