GOOD FORTUNE IS COMING !

When we do good things, sometimes we may think that no one notices or nothing seems to happen. Have you ever chanted and not seen anything happen right away? Or have you gone to a Buddhist activity but not seen big benefit right afterwards?

Sometimes we don't see the results of our actions and efforts right away. We might even start to think that there is no result coming. But we should always remember that we will get benefit from our efforts to chant, help others to practice and participate in SGI activities. The key is to keep going and keep making efforts even when we don't see the results. The results are coming!!! Nichiren Daishonin encourages us, as he encouraged Shijo Kingo, one of his members over 700 years ago, when he wrote: 'As I have often mentioned before, it is said that, where there is unseen virtue, there will be visible reward'. (The writings of Nichiren Daishonin, p.907)

'Unseen virtue' might mean chanting when no one is forcing us to or going to a meeting when we really want to be doing something else. It might even mean teaching someone else how to chant because we know that person needs help. The 'visible rewards' are great. Many times the good things that are in store for us are much better than we ever imagined! If we keep trying in our Buddhist practice, wonderful things will happen, even if these things don't happen right away. Great rewards are DEFINITELY coming!

Recently SGI President Ikeda encouraged us: 'Strong faith is like a powerful magnet, attracting good fortune from 'ten thousand miles away' (Jan.30, 2003, World Tribune, pg.2). Wow!! As we practice everyday, we can develop a strong inner self that attracts good fortune or benefit to our lives just like a magnet. So even if we don't see it right away, we should understand that all of our unseen acts are soon going to attract great rewards, like steel to a magnet, in every aspect of our lives.

There are two kinds of benefit or good fortune that come from practicing Nichiren Buddhism. They are conspicuous benefit and inconspicuous benefit. Conspicuous benefit is easily seen, like overcoming an illness quickly or being able to work through a disagreement you may have with a friend. Inconspicuous benefit, on the other hand, is like the growth of a tree or the rising of the tide. Each day as we practice we become stronger inside, a little at a time. We might not see any change from day to day, but as the years pass, it will be clear that you've become happy, that you've grown as an individual. When you chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, you will definitely gain the best result, regardless of whether that benefit is conspicuous or inconspicuous

Thank-you for this article also....Its something we need to be reminded of no matter how many years of practice we have behind us. Sometimes we need to just be still and reflect and thats when you get to see the benefit of inconspicuous benefit more clearly...

That is great and I am glad you posted that. I am in a time in my life where this encouraged me in a great way. Thank-you. Right now I feel as if I am working a heart treasured and sincere prictice. I deeply trust the power of my life and the Gohonzon, but I can really use a great benifit at this time so that I can feel better.

Good fortune is already here. Nichiren Buddhism is a practice of cause.
I have found that the more I chant with appreciation and gratitude for my life, the more I am aware of the fortune in my life.
