SGI Buddhism

A community for SGI Members

Of all the various things that Nichiren mentions, I continually find myself identifying with the Kankuco bird .. the one who froze by night in the cold and swore that tomorrow he would build a nest to keep warm, but when the day came, he sunbathed and didn't do the work necessary to build his nest and once again froze.

That's me all over .. it's not that I'm necessarily lazy, though that trait is probably there, but take this morning for example .. no Buddhist meetings today so fair enough, I had a bit of a lie in then a cuppa while listening to a Buddhist pocast which I'd intended to inspire me to do a good daimoku. On getting up I decided to have a quick check of my e-mails and ended up staying at my PC for much longer than I intended. Next time I looked at my watch it was time for the Italian Football on TV and I was hungry so I made some food and watched the football, thinking that I'd do a really late morning gongyo 5pm ish (I know it's not really morning :).

BUT .. after it finished I decided to do a little work and logged on to the PC again and still working .. well .. this is a minor distraction. So, so far today I've done sancho only and the daft thing is that I know I want to do gongyo but it's getting off my ass and doing it which I will do but it will probably end up being a rushed one .... not good form eh

So come on people .. I need a good buddhist slap of the wrists .. feel free lol

Come on Charlie you can do better than that, no computer until Gongyo is done. The young one in the photo is my grand-daughter by the way

Hey Charlie, we all have kankucho bird in us. If not in daily life, then some aspect of our life we keep postponig our own happiness. Great way to begin a day with a fresh determination, like Sensei says one step at a time!
