CHANT FOR THE PLANET!!!

I was recently listening to a lecture at an Estes Park Yoga Retreat by Carolyn Myss. there was a couple of things that she said that really stuck with me and I chanted about in relationship to my life. One of the first things she said was "are you here to stretch your muscles or are you here to stretch your soul?" I came to the conclusion that I could apply that statement to my daily life. I began to require of myself to include a much more spiritual meaning to everything I did. And I mean everything. The other statement she made that effected my life was that the planet it is a reflection of human suffering. She correlated disease with the very sufferings the planet is going through. From cancer to heart attacks, she drew a definite relationship between the two. It reallly gave me a reason to consider my personal practice of Buddhism, my personal behavior on a daily basis, minimizing and even deleting waste from my life, becoming green and even to the point of altering my eating lifestyle to a more natural vegetarian fare and practicing and teaching yoga. I never thought I would teach yoga. BUT I do embrace that taking responsibility for our own health and dis-ease is a positive contribution to healing the planet. How amazing. I love this planet.

Please let me know if you'd like to add thoughts/signatures to a letter I am planning to send to Danny Nagashima and President Ikeda about a global SGI video program. We show President Ikeda's videos at our Peace Prayer Meetings. He often introduces members from around the world. We now practice in 190 (?) countries. I would love to see footage of their activities/Buddhist practice/lives. So I am proposing that the SGI create short videos/films of members lives and Buddhist activities from around the world. They can be shown on the SGI website as well as at Kosen Rufu Gongyo and district meetings. President Ikeda takes such pride in the fact that the SGI is such a global community. The films would be a wonderful way for us to feel connected to the SGI from around the world and a great thing for guests to see when we bring them to meetings. I would love to get your thoughts on the above as well as ideas about artistic aspects of the films and how we could get the footage. Because I'd like this to be an ongoing program and not a one-time film, I'd love your suggestions on how to accomplish this in the simplest and most effective way.

This is a beautiful planet and I want to travel it all. As a Buddhist and a socially aware person I re-cycle with a vengeance and never, I mean never throw garbage out my car window. I think it is great that huge, sweeping events are planned and awareness of our planet's peril is rising but, just like chanting, it is the day to day causes that will eventually clean up the world.

Lights were turned off at my house, I played a little guitar in the dark, chanted daimoku by candlelight and then went to bed...........happy to be a part of the human race.
